Uterine Fibroids are a common disease. A quarter of African women suffer from this condition. Fibroids are caused by excessive production of estrogenic hormones.
Oestrogen hormones stimulate the unstraited muscle of the uterus to grow thereby causing fibroids. Fibroids cause over bleeding, severe lower abdominal and back pains, anaemia, fatigue, infertility, vaginal discharge, infections, miscarriages among other symptoms. A few cases become malignant (cancerous).
AVAILABLE TREATMENT
In Western medication, the treatment of fibroids is mainly by use of progesterone hormones. Unfortunately this form of treatment has side effects which include causing the women to grow beards, develop a hoarse voice and even gain weight.
Surgical operation is another form of treatment commonly used in the management of uterine fibroids. Operations are usually only able to remove the big sized fibroids, and consequently after an operation multiple small fibroids remain which will later grow to big Fibroids.
In Chinese herbal practice, doctors attribute fibroids to an imbalance in the Ying and Yang forces in the body, hormone imbalance, poor blood circulation and low immunity. The approach of traditional Chinese herbal practice in treating Fibroids is to boost the immunity, give herbs to balance the hormones, promote proper blood circulation, treat anaemia and other infections which cause the condition and to give herbs that help to dissolve the fibroids and tumours. Treatment works well when sought early and when the fibroids are not too large.
Chinese herbs also help in the treatment of endometriosis, endometritis, dysmenorrhoea and adnexitis which are associated with Fibroids attacks.
Once uterine fibroids are successfully treated, women get a normal menstrual flow and it is easy for them to conceive and carry the pregnancy to full term. |
